Senate: Assigned Seats

Proposition 2013 C

Assigned Seats Policy

We do not agree that assigned seats are fair. Some people believe that friends may sit with each other and become a problem. However, we should have the freedom to choose our seats at the

beginning of class every day unless it becomes a disturbance

Claim or Point:

We do not agree that assigned seats should be all year.
  • 1st and 2nd cardmarking assigned seats
  • 3rd and 4th cardmarking optional with Mr. Zangkas's approval
  • During tests and quizzes you must be in your assigned seats.

Counter Point:

Some people believe that friends may sit with each other and become a problem.

Point: specific Reasons:

We are old enough and should be able to make good decisions on where we should sit.

Consequences:
  • Mr. Zangkas has the option to make consequences for any abuse of policy.
    • first time a warning
    • 2nd time they should be moved for a cardmarking
    • 3rd time lunch time detention
    • 4th time, no longer able to choose seat.
  • Seat should be moved away from the person there is a problem.

Locker

Locker during Class
Point- We would like to be able to go to our locker during class time twice per card
marking (4 minutes maximum) to get our required class supplies.

Some people say you should nnot be able to go to your locker because it is your responsibility to have all your supplies.

Point-
  • Passing time is only four minutes and we might not have enough time to grab our book or the right book.
  • We are human and can make mistakes so therefore, students should get two time to go to the locker without consequences.

Consequences for going to our Locker more than twice per card marking
1st offense is 2 points off
2nd offense is 3 points,
3rd offense is 4 points off a 20 point assignment.
4th offense (and after) is 5 points off the 20 point assignment

4. Every person gets two passes per semester to go to their locker. You get
one extra freebie per semester. People may use this to their advantage in a
negative light, but this will make life easier for us. If you go to your locker
for longer than six minutes or longer first t ime you get a freebie. The
second ti m e if y o u are late y o u get you get 1 t a k e n away f r om t h e next
semester. If y o u go t o t h e b a t h r o om when you say you are going t o the
locker you lose one pass.

Assigned Seats:

Assigned seats proposal 6th hour representatives Our point is for Mr. Zangkas picks our seats 1st quarter. Students can pick their seats 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter if Mr. Zangkas approves of the seats.

Our counter point is that is that some people will talk during class

The Consequence of our law is If a student’s seat does not work out, Mr. Zangkas can change his or hers seat and if the student causes trouble, and if half or more the class causes trouble, Mr. Zangkas can terminate the agreement.

Assigned Seats Policy

We do not agree that assigned seats are fair. Some people believe that friends may sit with each

beginning of class every day unless it becomes a disturbance

Non-Assigned Seats

Point: We would like to sit where we want and change seats on a monthly basis.

Counter Point: Some may say this will distract us, as we would sit with people we

want, but...

Why:

• We feel that it would let us work with people that we work well with. When

we can pick who we work alongside, we will do better work as they are

someone that we know, and know that they will help us.

• If we were disruptive, we would get warnings. After two warnings by Mr.

Zangkas, we would be given a permanent seat for the rest of the card marking

(or until Mr. Zangkas deems appropriate), while the others change each

month. Mr. Zangkas also has the power to move students' seats up closer to

the front of the classroom if he does not want the class sitting only in the

back.

• We can move away f r om people we know that we would not be able to work

with, or know they would distract us.

• If you work with people you don't prefer/know, you may be less open to

sharing ideas, listening to their ideas, and studying together.

We would like to not have assigned seats; we would like to pick our own seats. We would like to pick our seats every other card marking. Some people may argue that there will be more distractions because people will be with their friends and may talk too much. We think this because we can cooperate with people around us because we are friends with them and get along with them. Consequences if you talk too much include a warning, lunch/rec detention, changing of your seat, and if it happens again a parent meeting will be addressed.
