Title: 19th Amendment Gabby G. and Jenni B.

It is...

The rights of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denined or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

It means...

This amendment means that the women are given voting rights. They are now allowed to vote in elections, and run for office.

Why it was proposed...

This amendment was proposed because 1.) Women did not like the way that the 14th and 15th amendment talked strictly about it being applied to "men." The women protested hard, and it eventually payed off. It took many yearrs for the women to recieve what they wanted.

Evaluation of application today...

This amendment was necessary at that time because women were being discriminated against men. They felt that the U.S Constitution was not being applied to them. Women were not happy with the wording of the 14th and 15th amendment. It talked strictly about the amendments being applied to "males." The women protested hard, and shared their thoughts. Eventually, their hard work payed off.

Example: where around the world this amendment does not apply...

The right for women to vote does not apply in Saudi Arabia. Women are greatly discriminated against in Saudi Arabia. Many are forced to marry, and forced to follow a religion. Women are now starting to protest against the government. Women protest hard, and they suffer. Main protesters get thrown in jail, and arrested. Life is very hard for the Saudi Arabia women. They do not share many of the same rights as men. Women are not even allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia.

Slide 2
The 19th Amendment exactly states that "The rights of the citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by and state on account of sex.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Ratified August 18th, 1920

This amendment means that women are individuals, and they have the freedom to vote and run in elections. Women are important in the elections. They matter.
This applies in our society because their votes greatly impact the elections. Women and men live in an equal democracy in the United States.

Slide 5:
In 2008, the percentage of female voters was 65.7%. In this election, the women had a higher percentage of voters over men. The votes from women are very important, and they influence the election highly. Women are using this amendment a lot today. Without this amendment, the elections would be highly unfair. Women are trying to vote at every chance they get.

Slide 6:
The womens' rights movements, which started as early as the 1830's, worked on abolishing slavery. When the 19th amendment was proposed, the topic became a controversial side. Women were protesting, and fighting for their individual rights. They conducted campaigns, and worked hard. This picture shows them protesting down 5th avenue for what they believed in.

Slide 7:
In conclusion, the 19th amendment was very important in U.S history. Many women were arrested for protesting and fighting for their individual rights. As you see in this pictures, the 19th amendment was a very long process, but it was all worth it for the women that fought. This picture shows the draft of the 19th amendment after the joint resolution.
